Cruising Areas

Boat Club Trafalgar members are free to cruise the entire length and breadth of the Solent. Our regular boating area ranges from Southsea in the East to Hurst Castle in the West. See our map below.

For members who wish to take Club boats to Langstone and Chichester Harbours we offer an extra day of induction.  Silver, Platinum and Corporate Platinum members can also enjoy cruising to Poole, Swanage and Studland, with appropriate levels of experience and navigation expertise.

Boat Club Trafalgar Cruising Areas

Boat Club Trafalgar’s extensive cruising areas enables all members to cruise the full length and breadth of the Solent waters. Packed with fabulous bays, creeks, harbours, the Isle of Wight and two major cities there is no shortage of places to visit. 

Cruising further afield is also available to all after demonstrating sufficient experience and doing the appropriate induction sessions, our members can also cruise:

  • Eastwards – to Langstone & Chichester Harbours (all members)
  • Westwards – to Poole, Studland Bay and Swanage Bay (Platinum and Platinum Corporate members)

Solent cruising area:

This is defined by:

  • Eastern Solent: a line between South Parade Pier, Southsea (50°46’45.7″N 1°04’39.4″W) to Bembridge (50°41’33.1″N 1°04’38.5″W)
  • Western Solent: a line between Totland Bay (50°40’40.2″N 1°33’00.7″W) and Hurst Castle (50°42’20.5″N 1°33’02.9″W)

Langstone Harbour & Chichester Harbour cruising area:

We offer a one day induction to cruise to these two adjacent harbours. This is defined by:

  • Eastern Solent, a line between South Parade Pier, Southsea (50°46’45.7″N 1°04’39.4″W)
  • To West Pole Beacon ( 50° 45′. 45N, 00° 56′. 59W ) 1 mile south of Chichester Harbour entrance – and the shoreline of Chichester Harbour

Poole, Swanage and Studland cruising area:

Cruising to Poole and Studland involves navigating through the strong tides at Hurst Castle and around the Shingles Bank. To ensure everyone’s safe and enjoyable boating we can arrange specific induction and training for this once you have approximately 2 to 3 years regular boating experience.

The cruising area is defined by a line:

  • North of the Needles Lighthouse and ‘Bridge’ East Cardinal Buoy
  • Swanage Harbour (50° 36′. 451N, 01° 56′. 652W
