The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course is the next step along your powerboat journey. This course is developed to extend your knowledge and understanding how to manoeuvre a powerboat in varying tides and conditions. The course also focuses on more in-depth pilotage and passage planning for those longer costal trips whilst using charts and onboard chat plotters. At the end of this course, you will be confident to plan, prepare and take a longer costal passage.
On the RYA intermediate course, you will learn to perfect those core skills, Coming alongside, man overboard and planning speed manoeuvres. The course also includes predicting tidal heights using various techniques, more in depth chart work will be practised to plan pilotage and passage planning whilst learning the basics of meteorology to ensure safe passage planning.
Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 Powerboat Handling course. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators certificate.
